Sensitive Teeth: The Causes

Posted .

If you suffer from sensitive teeth, you are probably aware of just how painful and unpleasant it can be. Of course, some individuals may have to deal with sensitive teeth their entire life. Conversely, others might be able to address tooth sensitivity. Still, have you heard what you might be able to do about sensitive teeth?

You see, your teeth are made up of several different layers. Your enamel, which is considered one of the hardest substances in your whole body, is a protective layer. The next layer of your teeth is known as dentin, which carries temperature signals to the nerves at the center of your tooth. If your enamel is worn down or broken through, your dentin may become exposed. If your dentin is exposed, you may be experiencing sensitivity. However, your enamel may be damaged by multiple issues, such as cavities, a loose filling, teeth grinding, and gum disease.

Sadly, once your enamel is gone, it cannot be healed, which means you might need other treatments to deal with your pain. Still, if you have tooth sensitivity, we suggest contacting us. Oftentimes, sensitivity can be caused by a dental problem including gum recession and an untreated cavity that needs to be filled. If this issue is addressed, your sensitivity could fade.

If you are someone who suffers from sensitive teeth, we may be able to help you address the underlying cause.
